In which the pro-side argued that LGBTQ people deserve equal legal rights and the opposition made more vague opposing arguments of societal disruption and immorality. The debate in Europe I originally appreciated as one of equal rights but I feel like that settled into a strictly legal debate.

On a much broader level, it just felt so ridiculous that was the fight.īut as time has passed, I do think the debate in the US (and I think Canada) made it all one fight - it wasn't about specific rights necessarily but about LGBTQ acceptance as a whole. On a more minor hand because as someone who grew up in a very accepting church, it was a bit painful to see my faith so widely used as a reason for hate. I was actually always a bit frustrated by how much the debate in the US was openly religious in opposition.

Just remember to be kind and be yourself, it'll all work itself out, however it ends up working.Īs someone who grew up in Europe and is back here now (but lived in the US in between), I've flipped pretty hard on my opinion for how the campaign for LGBTQ rights has gone in the US versus Europe. And Gandhi, when people see others suffering, they empathize, so yeah, it's gonna suck, but it works, love is love after all, and you don't spread love by spreading hate. i don't condone this behavior, like I said, there should be a punishment more for endangering lives with a possible fire, but it should still be noted the flag they chose, let their counselors talk to them, and remember, you don't change hearts and minds by being a bitch, you change them by being Martin Luther King Jr. They're just kids, nothing more nothing less, they'll probably grow up, have experienced with gays, and be like everyone else, apathetic if not mildly supportive. Stupid kids did a stupid thing that unregulated teenagers do? Classic, it doesn't matter how much you educate teens, they'll still do edgy shit like this, it's part of growing up, everyone had an emo phase, most of us had a "eww gay" phase, it's the way shit goes, the kids should be punished but it shouldn't be life changing, they didn't stab anyone, they didn't beat up a kid, it's just some edgy bullshit, same shit when people burn the American flag, it's edgy, trendy, gets them attention.
